This is Debs from Take a Moodle with Me. I write about moodling (yes, its a thing!) and finding small pockets of time in your everyday life to connect or reconnect with yourself.
On Instagram, the poet and author, Donna Ashworth often posts snippets or entire poems from her various books. This one, which I've called "Be Alive" (because I cannot find her title for it), hit me across the face a few weeks ago.
And it has stuck with me ever since. I’m getting better at living for the now, rather than someplace in the future when I have enough money/time/skills, or I’ve retired/gotten healthier etc. But it’s still so easy to fall back into the “When I…” trap.
This poem is my personal call to action!
I am ready to live!
My friend, this is it This is your life, right here, right now And let me tell you something Somebody, somewhere went to sleep last night assuming tomorrow would be a new day And it wasn't
Today is the day Everyday is the day Life waits for no one Seize the moment, seize the day
Dance like nobody's watching Watch the sunset Eat the delicious cake Put your barefeet on the cool grass
Be alive BE ALIVE
Put your hand on your chest and feel that heartbeat pulsing through your body That's all you need to be ready
I was so struck by these words, that I wrote them out in one of my weekly zines - you can see more here on my Deb.Aura.Art account on Instagram.
The card art - “Stop Waiting to Live”
This little card (numbered 31 in the pack of 50) is labelled with the words “Stop Waiting to Live”, which resonates beautifully with Donna Ashworth’s poem.
It is decorated with cheerful blue and yellow #collagefodder and features a big, juicy yellow bee!
Why a bee?
Well, I discovered some years ago, that my given name, Deborah means Honey Bee in Hebrew, and since then, I've had a conscious affinity with bees. I use them in my art a lot. I suppose it’s a way of anchoring me to my parents who gave me the name, and to others who have shared the name’s vibrational energy! Not that many call me Deborah these days, except my family when they want to say something serious to me!
I really do believe that words hold vibrational energy and power. Our names especially can sit comfortably or uncomfortably with us.
Do you know what your name means? Do you honour your name in any way, through art, music, in the way you live your life?
