Badger and Fox at the "Star Door"
A 100-word story set in Zee-Runty Fey - part of Fictional Moodling's The Summer of Magic series
Badger gazes longingly out of the spaceship door at the hexagonal wooden structure below.
“I’d give anything to sleep there for a night. To feel Planet Earth beneath my paws. To smell the wood; listen to the whispering trees. To look up at the stars. How could we do that?”
Fox sighs. “I don’t know. We’ve not managed to transport down to Earth for aeons. Why should this time be any different?”
“Because I want it more than anything else. I’m even willing to relinquish my life here on this ship to do it.”
Fox grabs Badger's paw “Let’s jump!”
Door 12 “Star Doors” by Annabelle King: The story of the door from Furzey Gardens website.
The creator of this door, Annabelle King writes:
I studied illustration at University of the West of England in Bristol in the early 2000s and have since worked as an illustrator and also painting murals for children’s nurseries and rooms. With Star Doors I wanted to move away from the traditional whimsical fairy stories and try something a bit different with local wildlife and fairies looking back down at earth through the spaceship door.

This story is part of my Summer of Magic series made up mostly of 100-word stories inspired by by some of the Fairy Doors and structures we saw in the gardens. Join me as we journey around the magical realm of Zee-Runty Fey, which is criss-crossed by bewitching and enchanting connections and a host of characters, either depicted on the doors, or imagined. I’ll be sprinkling a large measure of fairy dust to transport us into a world of wonder, whimsy and imaginative possibility.
