Being aware of my energy levels

This is Debs from Of Mappery. I write a mixture of fantasy micro fiction and real life stories, based on my hand drawn art maps.

I’m just popping in to say “hi” as I’ve been absent from this space for a few weeks. I want to let you know what’s going on and what lies ahead to the rest of 2024.
My energies (creative and otherwise) have been very low for a few months. I guess some of that is to do with starting a new role earlier in the year, in a non-profit based in South Africa and all that entails. It’s taking up a lot of headspace (mental energy!) - more than I thought it would to be honest. Coupled with that are some family issues and of course all the things that happen in summer!
I promised myself that this year, I would let my energy levels be my guide in managing my boundaries - what I say yes to, what I say no to, and how I look after myself, mentally, physically and emotionally.
That means that away from this ‘Of Mappery’ space, I am trying to keep my daily creative (my daily 6 word story, my 4th consecutive ICAD challenge, journaling), self care and spiritual practices alive by honouring my energies and capacity each day.
What has fallen by the wayside is sharing my writing and map art publicly in this space - I just don’t have the bandwidth to pull them all together to do that - for now.
Taking a break
You might’ve guess what comes next. I will be taking a break from this space over the coming months - the remainder of June and maybe July and August.
In September and October, I will be travelling to South Africa for work and celebrating my 60th birthday, so I know that I will not be able to do as much here as I want.
You may see the odd, sporadic letter popping into your inbox in July and August if my energies revive themselves. If I set your expectations really low, then you’ll hopefully get a lovely surprise if I do manage to pull something together to send out to you all.
The bottom line is, that I can assure you that Curious Questers Series Two and the adventures of the Ambassadors will continue. I will also be back to share a bumper crop of six word stories and maps with you all!
In the meantime, I wish you all the best for the coming months, whether you are experiencing our awful English summer, or getting winter-cosy.
