Dancing as metaphor for ...
My curiosity takes a moodle along some thought pathways
Hi! It’s Debs from Take a Moodle with Me. I write about moodling (yes, it’s a thing!) and finding small pockets of time in your everyday life to connect or reconnect with yourself, others and nature.
"I find myself in the epicentre of a dance of shadow and light"
As a photographer, I am always drawn to the dance of shadow and light, because after all, that is what makes a photograph. I shared the sentence above with
last week in response to her call to write a collaborative Wild Poem, and I truly cannot wait to see the final collective poem.My curiosity moodles along some thought pathways …
How does metaphorical dancing manifest in everyday life?
between light and shadow, between joy and sadness ...
between control and letting go ...
with others without losing myself or my integrity …
I think about what it takes to dance with someone else
My thoughts take me down the dancing with others route! Let’s explore …
Dancing with someone means listening to the chosen piece of music, really getting to know the rhythm and tempo.
Learning to feel and interpret the energy of the music to convey meaning and emotion.
It's about learning your own steps so they become part of your body. Then working out how those steps relate to your partner, discovering how to be in sync with each other and connecting the steps with the music.
How do the partners relate to the space around them: do they move around the dance floor on their own or together? Then there's adapting to a particular hold or posture, balancing the space between you with closeness. Balancing steps, sequences and movement with pauses, gestures and lifts.
A dance is a complex system of action, space and energy.
After many years of living a relatively isolated life, far from family, I am discovering that learning to dance with others in life is just as complicated as dancing itself. Even more so, when there are lots of people to take into account - it's like learning a massive group dance.

The Card Art
Such a simple card: three pink watercolour hearts stacked on top of each other, joined together with some doodles. The connecting doodles represent the dance with others.

Who or what are you dancing with in your life, currently? Is it an easy dance?

What is a moodle? It’s a dawdle, a stroll, a meander - to notice, appreciate and go where my curiosity takes me.

I think perhaps you already know my answer here Debs... I dance on my hill, I dance to the ever changing light of the seasons, to the wind and the rain (when it comes), to the songs of the crickets and the cicadas... in fact when I think about it, I dance pretty much all the time - even when I’m cooking with no music playing... 😂 I can’t wait to see Natalie’s poem either... xx
Oooh what an interesting question - I'm dancing alone but still in rythmn with life. And being alone I get to choose each day's dance although it tends more slow waltz rather than to hip hop these days ....😉
