How 2023 became Mappery (Mapambo Adornments: Edition 2024:2)
In this edition: A 100 word story of how 2023 felt for me
Why Adornments? Just as the mapmakers of old used to add embellishments around the edges of their maps, I like to think of all the bits in this letter as adornments to life. It’s me again, popping into your inbox (or app). I do not know what has gotten into me, but I’m feeling the need to share as I begin moodling my way into the new year, so bear with me please. We will get back into a schedule of sorts soon enough, I’m sure.
A 100 word story: how 2023 felt for me
Of Mappery and Mappery Moodles became a “thing” in 2023 - a year that feels momentous for me when I look back. Here’s a short story about how it felt in lots of mixed metaphors!
In 2023, the winds of change …
… blew into my life
… forming ripples that grew and grewThe winds of change …
… twisted the kaleidoscope so I began to see things in a new light
… drew all the threads together to forge something new and exciting
… leaving behind a newly formed landscape shaped by maps of all kinds
… are mapping new ways of being for my creative practices, my wellbeing and ultimately for my lifeThe winds of change leave no roadmap, just a sea of uncharted waters for this arty cartographer to navigate
Which leads me to giving you a glimpse of some of the art and life maps I made last year. Some of these have featured in my fiction stories - others will feature in both fiction and personal writing this year!

Hi Debs, I’ve just caught up with all your wonderfully inspiring posts, I am a long way from a schedule or a plan for 2024 yet... I’ve not had time to read, written barely anything or had much inspiration to do so? I saved your posts, as I have done many others, for a moment (and it is only a moment sadly) like this. I am beginning to think that my holidays are actually harder to navigate than my work days, the lack of routine and constant demands from the two men/boys (is there a difference?) I live with are never ending and eat up almost every second I have for me. My problem I know..!
I haven’t forgotten your email lovely, I will try to sit down tonight with a reply, I have at least had the time to be thinking about Jalisse and Kriliah and what next!
Have a lovely Sunday, it’s bitterly cold here today, even a few flakes of snow have fallen... it’s better than rain at least.. xx
