Take a moodle through DaBelle Isle's floral kingdoms!
A fabulously, fictional and floral way to keep a track of the 100-day project
One of the things I think is so powerful about doing long-term creative projects is how they evolve beyond the initial plan you had for them.
Have you ever noticed how that happens?
The balance lies in being flexible enough to try out different directions but focused enough to stay true to the original idea. I guess the key is to be open and receptive to the new ideas that flood in when you commit and begin something new.
What is your experience with this?
Here's an example …
… with a short detour first (an "ompad" in Afrikaans).
In the Namaqualand region of South Africa, a magical natural event takes place every spring (late August to September). A dry, arid desert-like region transforms into a wild garden, literally saturated with a dazzling array of densely packed wildflowers.
In all the years I lived in South Africa (18 to be precise), I never managed to see it! September was always a busy month with the beginning of new school terms and birthdays, and somehow, it never happened.
Introducing DaBelle Isle's floral kingdoms!
My little map of florals is a nod to this sensational, natural spectacle which I hope to see before I leave this earth. It times nicely too with the beginning of spring here in the Northern Hemisphere.
And the most exciting part is this is a new idea that has arisen in just one week of doing my current 100-day project!
A little project tracker
It’s also a nifty little tracker that links intimately with the art in my project and to past art projects, particularly my 2021 ICAD one. The floral regions roughly correspond to the 14 weeks of the 100-day project, and there are a total of 50 "places of interest" that match the 50 cards I am sharing. All fabulously fictional of course. Ha!
Tomorrow, I’ll share two short videos so you can see:
how I made the map of DaBelle Isle
