The 'memory' map will build itself
[Series Two: Episode 5] Crox goes to Sneureon to start building an important map of memories and knowledge, enlisting the skills of the super charged, technologically advanced beings who live there.
In the previous episode, Zhael has an otherworldly experience in her attempt to escape from the underground cavern she finds herself in.
In this episode, Crox goes to Sneureon to start building an important map of memories and knowledge, combining intuition and technology and enlisting the skills of the super charged, technologically advanced beings who live there.
Location and map: The action takes place on Sneureon. Scroll down to the bottom of this letter for maps! ⬇️
I am driven to find a way to “backup” my knowledge and memories so I share it through the Knowledge Hub on To’Boam. Conscious that I need to share everything I know so much about. And the core principle of guardianship – safeguarding the potential for good within a universe brimming with chaos.
I’m told that some of the most technologically enhanced beings on The Drifting Expanse live on Sneureon. They’re excellent memory preservers and can help prepare memories to be seen and heard by others. I need to build a knowledge map - or to at least begin.
The trick is landing on Sneureon. The place is reminiscent of a human’s neural network - it and the beings who live there are in a constant state of flux. There’s only one landing point to Beneathward - a sinuous strip of land constantly flexing like a muscle in spasm (see annotated map below). I asked Jalisse for help - she’s given me a potion to sip as I leave the confines of To’Boam’.
It works, I’m able to merge with the energetic movement of the landing spot but I find myself immediately deposited into a sea of identical Sneureon Beings, super charged and energetic. Their many-legged forms, long, thin, segmented bodies and pulsating head tendrils create a dizzying spectacle. Bewildered and unsure of the Sneureon communication etiquette I go ahead and project a statement out into the collective - “I’m looking for Head Techie, please”.
Eventually, I’m found and welcomed. I note that Head Techie is marginally different to the others with a metallic sheen to their segmented body. I have no experience with where to look at the sinuously swaying being in front of me. It is disconcerting.
Head Techie, with their advanced technological intuition, understands what I need and why I’m here. I’m flooded with relief as they explain the process I must go through including details about the Prep Hub and the Capturing Chamber.
"Fascinating," I muse. "So, the ‘memory’ map will essentially build itself as I recall memories and knowledge? That's ingenious! I get it, keep it uncluttered. Less editing now, refinement later."
The Capturing Chamber is so important, it offers no room for error. Every stray thought, every irrelevant memory, would make more work. With newfound purpose, I set up in the tranquil Prep Hub. Time passes as I sift through memories and knowledge snippets, trying to locate just the important ones, but finding that each one connects to a complex network of others. I prep, rest and subsist on strange, bioluminescent rations provided by the Sneureon. Eventually I am ready. I have written a list on a scroll, a tangible anchor in this sea of swirling technology. It is my map, a carefully crafted one. Each entry is precise - no tangents, no emotional baggage, just the raw data the Sneureon need.
The Head Techie's words echo in my head: "Every single thought will be captured - important or not."
I can't wait to share the finished product with others, it will be a testament to the power of combining intuition and technology.
Join me next time to find out how Crox gets on in the Capturing Chamber in the next episode, and see what the memory map looks like.
This is a map of Sneureon, showing its resemblance to a human neural network and the key story locations.
The Drifting Expanse
This evolving map shows the locations of each of the episodes, from Series One and this new series. The locations are marked with their names and the series and episode number. e.g. S1:3 Hexton City is series one, episode three.
Sneureon is found Beneathward of the Sea of Berkberry, in the Berkberry Archipelago on The Drifting Expanse.
