The Munchkins and the Owl One
A 100-word story set in Zee-Runty Fey - part of Fictional Moodling's "Summer of Magic" series series published each Tuesday and Friday until 8th September
The village is abuzz with festivities celebrating the Owl One, who lives in the giant oak, protecting the small people from other predators that enjoy a Munchkin-sized snack.
Hand-carved totems are on every village corner, adorned with feathers and owl-amulets. Locally-made honey beer flows freely as The Munchkins dance, sing, and feast around their totems.
But The Watcher is sober and alert, for she will sound the alarm to clear the streets just before midnight. Only a foolish Munchkin would play daredevil, for then, the Owl One swoops down to claim his annual sacrifice in exchange for his fierce protection.
No fairy door for this story, just this amazing sculpture of a fairy village from an old trunk, and the wooden owl watching from a near by tree.
This story is the final individual story in my Summer of Magic series inspired by by some of the Fairy Doors and structures we saw in the gardens. Read more about what has happened to all the characters in the next two stories.
I am publishing the stories each Tuesday and Friday until 8th September. Join me as we journey around the magical realm of Zee-Runty Fey, which is criss-crossed by bewitching and enchanting connections and a host of characters, either depicted on the doors, or imagined. I’ll be sprinkling a large measure of fairy dust to transport us into a world of wonder, whimsy and imaginative possibility.

Whoa, a little darkness sprinkled into your faery tale. Nicely done. A lot packed into 100-words.
I have to agree with Barrie here Debs... love the slightly sinister twist..!
