The Otherworld of the Observation Tower
A 100-word story set in Zee-Runty Fey - part of Fictional Moodling's "Summer of Magic" series published each Tuesday and Friday until 8th September
“Take a look at this, Dewey, it's a whole different world!”
“I’m the wrong shape to get up the ladder!”
“I was too - just close your eyes, climb and trust”
A whirring sound, a rush of air.
“That was weird. And wow! It’s all topsy-turvy up here”
Below, a clear azure sky; above inverted emerald jungle trees dangle; a vibrating zigzag of magenta light separates the two.
Miniscule beings whizz through the zigzag.
Dewey grins, looking longingly at the upturned world: “That looks like so much fun! Am I brave enough to fly there …”
“Hey! Dewey, where’d you go?”
Door 3 “Bird’s Eye View” by Sarah Rosenthal : The story of the door from Furzey Gardens website.
The door considers perspective and looking at the world from someone else’s view.
‘Within our garden we have a bird house which was built by my father-in-law for my son. The bird house remained empty for some time, until a very brave little blue tit chose to make it his home. My son named him Bluey, and spent many hours watching him go back and forth from the nest to feed his young. The fairy door design is from inside the bird house, looking at the world through Bluey’s eyes.
Believe in yourself.

This story is part of my Summer of Magic series made up mostly of 100-word stories inspired by by some of the Fairy Doors and structures we saw in the gardens.
I am publishing the stories each Tuesday and Friday until 8th September. Join me as we journey around the magical realm of Zee-Runty Fey, which is criss-crossed by bewitching and enchanting connections and a host of characters, either depicted on the doors, or imagined. I’ll be sprinkling a large measure of fairy dust to transport us into a world of wonder, whimsy and imaginative possibility.
