What's here to celebrate?
Here’s my second randomly selected card, numbered 23 in the pack of 50.
Today’s moodle takes us into celebrations …
The card art
A simple collage, in pinks and blues. The collage pieces are from stuff I've made and then discarded, and then revisited to cut into collage fodder. The placement of the pieces was meant to convey an upbeat vibe and a sense of movement and flow. Not sure if I achieved that?
The practice: What's here to celebrate?
In this ridiculous, fast-moving society, we always seem to be moving, ticking off, and looking for the next thing to conquer / achieve / visit / produce / add your own words here ...
What if ...?
We paused.
Took our foot off the pedal and slowed down to:
Celebrate the small, everyday things?
Celebrate this moment?
Celebrate the in-between times, not the big moments?
Celebrate ourselves? (Gasp!)
How would that feel?
Quintessence:
As Oprah Winfrey says:
"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate"
End note:
What's here to celebrate? is from Dewitt Jones, a former National Geographic photographer who came to my attention a few years back, when a friend lent me some of his training materials. As a photographer myself, I was taken with his idea of looking at the world through a lens of celebration. I wrote this quote repeatedly in my journals to remind me to keep this as a focus for my own photography and peace of mind. I stumbled across it again a few weeks ago when I was re-reading phrases to add to my well-being cards.
More about that in tomorrow's mini-essay.
Love this 😊
